People have already said this countless times before about this film, and I'll say it again; this film is not your typical horror film. You might like that, you might not. I loved it. I watch a lot of horror films, and it's always refreshing to find a film that attempts to do something different with the genre.
It's not set in some creepy location like an asylum, or an old mansion, or a camping site in the middle of some dark woods. Instead, it's set in a bright and sunny village in the middle of Sweden. Visually, the film isn't dark. The scares don't play off a nighttime setting (in fact, I think only two scenes in the film take place during the night) but instead everything is set in the middle of the day where it's light and there's no shadows or chilling wind. The film is visually quite beautiful and aesthetic, with colourful shots of nature, and an overall amazing cinematography. And yet, every shot and every take of the flowers and the mountains and the trees feel so eerie and unsettling. It's something you have to watch to experience.
The characters are well-built, and most importantly, they feel real from the way they talk to the way they interact with one another. I'll take this moment to highlight the main character, Dani, a well-written character who is brilliantly portrayed by Florence Pugh.
I could keep praising the film, because I loved it that much, but I don't want to spoil too much. Just go watch it. It's definitely worth it.

I think that this film is one of the best ive seen in a long time.
The ending is her being trapped all over again. They won't let her leave after what she saw, then she's gonna be murdered at 72.
Nothing about this movie is believable. nothing. im used to characters acting stupid to advance the plot but wtf.
I never understood why they sat there without eating.

This is an interesting video and I enjoyed it, and what I'm about to write is only tangentially related. As someone who grew up close to Hårga, this film leaves somewhat of a sour taste in my mouth, and I think the eclectic use of anything which seems to an American to be related to Scandinavia and slightly occult kind of annoyed me. Ättestupa, the blood eagle, runes, using Hårga as a backdrop presumably because of the nearby Hårgaberget, etc, it just seems like a lot of different, random elements were thrown in just because it fits the aesthetic, and without much more thought than that. I think it's a good film but I'm annoyed at its location and how it uses it, essentially. As a sidenote, you could just google how to pronounce å and ä, you know ! You've got the same sounds in English.

This was a weird watch after korvidays video about Shane Dawson and grooming. It is frightening how much alienation in this society can prime us to be taken advantage of.
Usualy I like your sins but 75% of the 'sins' in this movie are unjustified.
Thank you! Whenever someone proclaims that their main takeaway from this film is that it's got a happy ending, I can't help but get goosebumps all over my body.

This film takes the viewer through some scenes with highly complicated instances of emotional expression. I didn't really know how to take the group moaning seriously at first but it later occured to me how resonant that would make those experiences which were being shown. Dani was offered an emotional breakthrough from the way the cultists helped her deal with her feelings. She needed that level of exertion, she had snapped. Furthermore, Christians disoriented infidelity is what provided Dani the chance to snap which lead to the cultists helping her exercise away her damaging emotions. I think this wailing scene also works to set up Dani to be portrayed as having emotionally transcended to the point where she is willing to let Christian die; she found the support she needed from Christian from the female cult members instead and so she feels no remorse in letting him die. He ultimately failed to help her directly of his own accord so karma worked to have him betray her badly enough to where she would snap and the cult would help her heal, leaving her only with feelings of resentment towards Christian and an invaluable feeling of gratitude towards the cult members that is strong enough to over rule that fact that they are all insane killers that killed everyone she came there with and even kill their own in ritualistic practice. The emotional logic of this story operates on a genius level that most people won't quickly associate with, but that doesn't make it nonsense.

This makes the movie a lot more interesting than I initially thought and elevates my regard for it on par to hereditary, can't believe i didn't catch the undertones of the fascist cult since i just desperately wanted dani to heal from her pain.
