Title: the fifth murderous fiend Today in the 21st century, medical technology has been making amazingly great process. People today can't imagine the fact that some people in ancient times died of trivial illnesses. In our modern times, we, in most parts of the world, can and do take good care of our health probably because we are aware of what health is and what diseases are to be watched. However, we sometimes suffer from a disease all too soon no matter how much attention we pay. In 2011, the fifth murderous fiend appeared. She continues to multiply and hurt many people. We can’t defeat her even with strong weapons. In addition, we can’t catch the sight of her. She is unrivaled and invisible. Can you guess who she is? She is psychiatric disorder, most commonly, “depression.” The Ministry of Health had identified four major health conditions threatening Japanese citizens. The four are: cancer; apoplexy; acute myocardial infarction; and diabetes. In 2011, the Ministry added depression to the list to make five. I want to ask some questions of you. Don’t you enjoy yourself these days? Don’t you have appetite? Don’t you get enough sleep? If even one case is with you, depression may have bad effects on you. According to the economic magazine “Toyo-Keizai,” twenty thousand people suffered from depression in 1996, and twelve years later, in 2008, seventy thousand people. That is to say, surprisingly, 1 out of almost 200 Japanese citizens was afflicted by the illness. You may be thinking that depression does not affect you, but in fact, you, listening to me now, are not exceptions. The number of its patients has been increasing gradually. However, only 20% of them take the medicine. I was surprised to know the fact and I wondered why many people were not sensitive to depression. The harms I want to address today are physical damage and mental damage. Firstly, the physical side is a lack of sleep and appetite. 9 out of 10 patients suffer from sleeplessness. Sleep is necessary to all mammals. They can't exist without it. Moreover, depression deprives you of appetite. Some of you eat meals 1 or 2 times a day. It is because meal itself is pain. You would feel as if chopsticks were heavy like an iron stick and think it is troublesome to carry food to your mouth. Secondly, the mental side is an increase in possibility of suicide. If you have much stress, your life becomes full of pain gradually. You may not be able to it. It leads to a miserable life bear leading a miserable life. At last, you may think it is better to pass away than to hang onto the earth. As a result, you are much more likely to kill yourself.Why does depression occur? The cause of it is “uncomfortable stress”. We have to defeat it. Otherwise, it would control our body. Anyone who has uncomfortable stress may suffer from depression. If exposed to stress, the hormone which fights against this will be secreted. However, the feedback mechanism usually works and a stress reaction stops gradually. If you get depression, this will last. How can we prevent uncomfortable stress?One way to eliminate this kind of stress is being relaxed. The most important thing I want to emphasize is challenging something new and finding a hobby. Your hobby has to be interesting enough that you forget about time. Concentrate on your favorite thing and enjoy yourself. If you can devote yourself to your hobby, you can be relaxed and defeat depression. As for me, the key to dealing with uncomfortable stress is Yo-Yo. Long ago, I was subject to depression. However, Yo-Yo changed my life dramatically. Thanks to my hobby, Yo-Yo, I was able to eliminate uncomfortable stress. I’m so thankful to my best friend, Yo-Yo.
