Heart Attacks: Women Are Different Than Men (MedicineNet.com
The campus is different than it was 20 years ago. The campus is different from how it was 20 years ago. How different things appear in Washington than in London! It has possessed me in a different way than ever before. How different things appear in Washington from the way they appear in London! How different this seems from Paris! How different this seems than Paris! (英語で言うと、後者は、the way things were in Parisとかwhat happened in Parisが比較の対象という感じらしい。)これもthanの背後に、than (things were in) Parisのような文が感じられるからであろう。 She is younger than I. Iが使えるのは、than I amという文が隠れているからだ。(ちなみに、口語では、thanが前置詞と取られて、She is younger than me. She regards me more highly than he.とShe regards me more highly than him.(『ジーニアス』)との意味の違いの問題もあるが、これは別の機会に回す。)
