『パイレーツ・オブ・カリビアン』で、銃と剣と方位磁石と帽子を取り上げられたジャックがエリザベスを盾にして逃げるシーンで、「俺の持ち物を返してもらおう。それと帽子もだ」と言う。

effects は「所持品、持ち物」。ここでちょっと不思議に思ったのが、わざわざ my effects and my hat と分けているということは、hat（帽子）は effects（所持品）には分類されないんだ、ということ。

ためしに effects をコウビルドで引くと、the things that they have with them at a particular time, for example when they are arrested. 同意語で belongings とある。
　これをさらに調べると Your belongings are the things that you own, especially things that are small enough to be carried. とあった。

carry は「携帯する、持ち歩く」ということだから、「携帯するのに充分小さいもの」ということになり、hat は carry ではなく wear するものだから、effects には含まれないということになる。
