芝生化奮闘記

第1回KRFC杯で0ｰ55という大敗から一年余りが経ち、その間は一貫して週2回までの練習、夏場の4ヶ月間は完全オフ、全ては芝生の上という原則を守りながら頑張って来ている湖山ラグビーフットボールクラブが昨日第2回KRFC杯を開催し、またも鳥取大学と決勝戦を戦いました。

木金の二日間で除雪した今は国立競技場よりも芝生の状態がいいといわれている布勢運動公園の陸上競技場で、大雨が降りしきる中での決していい条件ではなかったが、今年は19ｰ5と1回目の雪辱を果たしました。

クラブ創設2年目、7試合めでの快挙による予定されていた新年会が急遽、祝勝会となり、大いに盛り上がりました。これからは回月1ー2回の交流試合をし、更なる楽しく勝てるラグビーをして行きたいです。

と同時に、今は5人と少ない少年会員にとっては自分達が大きくなったら必ず選手になりたいと思うクラブの顔となるようなチームを作り上げて行きたいとも思います。

Not much 1 year after losing by the huge margin of 0-55 in the 1st KRFC Cup, a period in which we have remained faithful to our ground rules of 2 training sessions a week, all on grass, and a complete 4 month break in the summer, Koyama RFC yesterday again met Tottori University in the 2nd KRFC Cup.

After two days hard work clearing the snow off the ground (Thursday and Friday), the match was staged at the main ground in the Fuse Sports Park (said by people in the know ot have better turf than the National Stadium in Tokyo) in driving rain, far from ideal conditions.

I am pleased to be able to report that Koyama RFC won this year's match by 19-5.

Having achieved our first victory in our second season and 7th match, the post-match New Year party turned into a victory celebration. We will continue having 1-2 friendly matches against local club teams each month as the club gradually develops its player base while enjoying our rugby.

At the same time, we strive to become a team that the younger members of the club (at present 5 primary school students) look up to as their immediate target.

The future is bright!
