Furugoyomi nokori mikka no tsutome kana
Becoming this years's calendar old,
I wonder if there three days
remaining its duties
Shime-shide ya syogatsu hikae saya-narinu
A few days before New Year's Day,
The streamers to offer up makes a wispering
In a moderate breeze
Syoji sasu kangetsu miyo to akehanasu
A light shines
through the shoji screens.
Let's open to see the cold moon
Kadomatsu ya matsu harisaki ni yadoru tsuki
The cold moon
that dwells on the tip of needle
of the pine of New Year's gate
