Now, the 57-year-old TV celebrity has taken the plunge with her first English-language cookbook.

（思いきって）実行にふみきる
実行するのに勇気や度胸がいることについて使う。plungeは文字どおりには「（水の中などへ）ざぶんと飛び込むこと」である。I stood on the edge of the pool for some minutes gazing at the cold water, trying to get up enough nerve to take the plunge.（私は飛び込む勇気を奮い起こそうとして、冷たい水面を見つめながら数分間プールの縁に立っていた）。比喩的には「思いきってやること」とか「大胆な試み」の意。the plungeと常に定冠詞を伴うのは、そのplungeについて「それまでにさんざん考え、悩み、躊躇（ちゆうちよ）した」という限定がついているからである。つまりこの表現は、文字どおりか比喩的かを問わず、常に、それまで躊躇したり、あれこれ考えたりしたあげくに「実行にふみきる」といった状況で使われる。（asahipressSENTENCEより）
