 Stone Monument Honoring 名誉を与えるKikuchi Kan Regarded as a leading figure in the literary world of Japan, Kikuchi Kan was born in 1888 (Meiji 21) and lived on 6-1 7-bancho, Takamatsu, Kagawa County (Now Tenjinmae, Takamatsu) up until he graduated from the former Takamatsu Junior High School In 1953 (Showa 28), the monument was erected 建てるby volunteers in front of his former birth house, and then it was moved diagonally across the street, which is affectionately愛情をこめて nicknamed "Kikuchi Kan dori", to the current location in 2015 (Heisei 27). The inscription 碑文on the stone monument, Kikuchi Kan's Birthplace, was written by his friend, Kojima Masajiro, another famed writer. The epigram 風刺詩beside was Kan's favorite motto座右の銘 of his own handwriting,roughly meaning 'Unless you have a grasp つかむof reality, you will never succeed in anything, while you will never understand the essence of the matter unless you have a clear mind."  THE FATHER RETURNS This bronze statue is made in memory of Kikuchi Kan (1888~1948), who was born in Takamatsu and became influential影響を及ぼす in Japan's literary world. The statue depictsを表現する a scene from his masterpiece代表作 THE FATHER RETURNS (1917) It is a short play about a father, who deserts his family for his own indulgences道楽 and returns home years later as a ruined and impoverished 貧困に陥ったold man. He is seeking forgiveness and comfort in his old age, although he finds himself rejected by his indignant 怒ったson. Despite the son's rejection, the rest of the family has mixed feelings about his return. This play created a sensation on stage and brought Kikuchi Kan further fame.
