Now, JR East introduces E233 Series on Keihin-tohoku Line to replace 209 Series. But I found the next train which will be replaced. That's E501 Series. E501 Series was debuted in 1995 to improve transportation on Joban Line. It was the first commuter train which can run both DC section and AC section and has variable frequency drive control system made by Siemens AG,"SIBAS32", in Japan. There are 10-carriage sets and 5-carriage sets, and they form the train of 15 cars. It ran on Joban Line between Ueno and Tsuchiura. However, in 2007, all of Joban Line train coming to Ueno were changed to E531 Series and E501 Series moved to Joban Line between Tsuchiura and Iwaki and Mito Line. And it doesn't form 15 cars. I think the capacity of E501 Series doesn't match on Joban Line between Tsuchiura and Iwaki. The life of Siemens' machines is 10 or 15 years. I also think E501 will be scrapped because of the depreciation and the life of machines are coming soon.
