墨田区を歩いていると葛飾北斎の浮世絵に何度も出逢います。その解説文を読んでみました

​きらりの『両国旅日記』・・・その24​


すみだが誇る世界の絵師葛飾北斎が描いた風景をたどろう

本所立川ー富嶽三十六景ー


富士山を描いた「富嶽三十六景」シリーズの一枚です。

北斎が70歳頃の版行です。

江戸時代、

堅川の北川（旧相生町一丁目〜二丁目付近）には、

その水運を活かした材木問屋が密集していました。



北斎は、

それら問屋と職人たち、

木材の間から覗く富士山を描きました。

積み重ねられた材木の間から見える富士山は、

遠近法を得意とする北斎らしい構図です。

右下の材木置き場には「西村置場」、

その左右の木材には「馬喰丁弐丁目」

「富嶽三十六景」「永寿堂仕入」などの墨書があり、

版元名とその場所、

本シリーズ（「富嶽三十六景」）の宣伝が

さりげなく入っています。



​Thirty-Views of Mount Fuji:Honjo Tatekawa​

(The Timberyard at Honjo)

A print from the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji

series featuring scenes of Mt.Fuji.

This print was made when Hokusai was

about seventy years old.

During the Edo Era,

timberyards that used the river for transporting

timber were crowded along the north

bank of the Tatekawa River

(nearby the former Aioicho 1-chome through to 2-chome).



Hokusai has depicted a scene of Mt.Fuji seen

​​

from between the timberyards,

the workers and the timber.

The composition of this print with

Mt.Fuji visible between the piles of

timber is typical of Hokusai,

who was evry proficient at expressing perspective.

"Nishimura Storage Yard"is written on the timber

storage area at the bottom right-hand side and

"2-Chome Bakurocho"and"Supplied by Eijudo"is

written on the timber on the left and right of this,

enabling Hokusai to casully advertise the name 

and address of the Thirty-six Views of 

Mount Fuji series'publisher.
