どうすれば
無執着、智恵、自由をみいだせるのでしょう
どうか教えて下さい！

Child,
If you wish to be free,
Shun the poison of the senses.

我が子よ、
もし自由になりたいのなら
感覚のもたらす毒を避けなさい

Seek the nectar of truth,
Of love and forgiveness,
Simplicity and happiness.

真理と愛と赦し
純粋さと至福の甘露を見いだしなさい

Earth, fire and water,
The wind and the sky -
You are none of these.

土、火、水、風、空
あなたはそれらではない

If you wish to be free,
Know you are the Self,
The witness of all these,
The heart of awareness.

もし自由になりたいのなら
あなたはこれらすべてを観照する真我
覚醒のハートだということを知りなさい

Set your body aside.
Sit in your own awareness.

身体のことは忘れ
あなた自身の気づきの内にとどまりなさい

You will at once be happy,
Forever still,
Forever free.

たちまち、あなたは幸せになるだろう
永遠に安らかに
永遠に自由に

You have no caste.
No duties bind you.

あなたにはどんな階級もない
どんな義務もあなたを束縛することはない

Formless and free,
Beyond the reach of the senses,
The witness of all things.

あなたは形をもたず、自由で
感覚では捉えきれない
すべてのものごとの観照者だ

So be happy!

だから幸せでありなさい！

Right or wrong,
Joy and sorrow,
These are of the mind only.
They are not yours.
It is not really you

正や不正
喜びや悲しみ
これらはたんに心が生み出すもの
あなたはそれらではない

It is not really you
Who acts or enjoys.

行為をしたり、喜んだりするのは
本当のあなたではない

You are everywhere,
Forever free.

あなたは遍く（あまねく）存在し
永遠に自由だ

Forever and truly free,
The single witness of all things.

あなたは永遠に自由な
すべての物事を見守るただ一人の観照者

But if you see yourself as separate,
Then you are bound.

だが、もし自分自身を分離した存在と見なすなら
そのとき、あなたは束縛されている

"I do this. I do that."
The big black snake of selfishness
Has bitten you!

「私はこれをする。私はあれをする」
利己主義の黒い大蛇が
あなたに噛みついたのだ！

"I do nothing."
This is the nectar of faith,
So drink and be happy!

「私は何もしない」
これこそが信頼の甘露
それを飲み干して
幸せでありなさい！

Know you are one,
Pure awareness.

あなたは一なるもの
純粋な気づきだ
それを知りなさい

With the fire of this conviction,
Burn down the forest of ignorance.

この確信の炎で
無知の森林を焼き尽くしなさい

Free yourself from sorrow,
And be happy.

悲しみからあなた自身を解き放ち
幸せでありなさい！

Be happy!
For you are joy, unbounded joy.

幸せでありなさい！
あなたは歓喜、限りない歓喜だ！

You are awareness itself.

あなたは気づきそのもの

Just as a coil of rope
Is mistaken for a snake,
So you are mistaken for the world.

ロープを蛇と見間違うように
あなたは世界を見間違えたのだ

If you think you are free,
You are free.

もし自分は自由だと考えるなら
あなたは自由だ

If you think you are bound,
You are bound.

もし束縛されていると考えるなら
あなたは束縛されている

For the saying is true:
You are what you think.

なぜなら、いにしえの言葉にあるとおり
あなたは自分が思うものになるからだ

The Self looks like the world.
But this is just an illusion.

真我は世界のようにみえる
だが、それはただの幻

The Self is everywhere.
真我は遍く存在している

One.
Still.
Free.
Perfect.

ひとつであり
静かで
自由で
完全だ

The witness of all things,
Awareness
Without action, clinging or desire.

行為も執着も欲望もなく
すべてのものごとを見守る観照者
気づきなのだ

Meditate on the Self.
One without two,
Exalted awareness.

真我に瞑想しなさい
二のない、一なるもの
崇高な気づき

Give up the illusion
Of the separate self.

分離した自己という
幻想を棄て去りなさい

Give up the feeling,
Within or without,
That you are this or that.

私はあれやこれだ
内側や外側だという
感覚を手放しなさい

My child,
Because you think you are the body,
For a long time you have been bound.

我が子よ、
自分は身体だと考えるために
あなたは長い間束縛されてきた

Know you are pure awareness.

あなたが純粋な気づきだと知りなさい

With this knowledge as your sword
Cut through your chains.

この知識をあなたの剣として
鎖を断ち切るのだ

And be happy!

そして幸せでありなさい！

For you are already free,
Without action or flaw,
Luminous and bright.

行為もなく、欠点もなく
光り輝くあなたは
すでに自由だ

You are bound
Only by the habit of meditation.

ただ瞑想を修練するために
束縛されてしまうのだ

Your nature is pure awareness.

あなたの本性は純粋な気づき

You are flowing in all things,
And all things are flowing in you.

あなたはすべての中に流れ
すべてがあなたの中に流れている

But beware
The narrowness of the mind!

ただ気づきなさい
狭き心に！

You are always the same,
Unfathomable awareness,
Limitless and free,
Serene and unperturbed.

あなたは常に不変で
限りがなく、自由であり
穏やかで、かき乱されない
計り知ることが出来ない気づきだ

Desire only your own awareness.

ただ自己の気づきだけを求めなさい

Whatever takes form is false.
Only the formless endures.

何であれ形あるものは偽りだ
形ないものだけが在り続ける

When you understand
The truth of this teaching,
You will not be born again.

この教えの真理を
ひとたび理解すれば
ふたたび生まれ変わることはない

For God is infinite,
Within the body and without,
Like a mirror,
And the image in a mirror.

身体の内側にも外側にも
神は限りなく存在している
鏡のように
そして鏡に映るイメージのように

As the air is everywhere,
Flowing around a pot
And filling it,
So God is everywhere,
Filling all things
And flowing through them forever.

空気が遍く存在し
壺のまわりを流れ
またそれを満たしているように
神は遍く存在し
すべてを満たし
すべてを通して永遠にながれている
