Is the reason only the relaxed education policy? If you see only this result, you might think their ability of mathematics is getting lower because of it. However, in order to see the result correctly, we have to consider some other factors. Now I would like to make it clear here.Firstly, one of the factors is the number of the participating countries. It increased from 32 to 56. In this case, it can be said that the result of the ranking has become more precise and fair worldwide. Secondly, although the rank became lower, the percentage of questions answered correctly showed no big difference. With the same questions, it was 53% in 2003 and 56% in 2006 in mathematics. In reading comprehension, 62% and 60% respectively. Thirdly, there is the matter of reduction of school hours that had been led by the relaxed education policy. They say that is the main cause for making the ranking of PISA lower. However, The total amount of school hours in Finland is shorter than that in Japan. Finland is regarded as the most successful country in education. So the amount of time for study doesn't relate directly to the real ability of students. In conclusion, the abilities of students in Japan haven't changed very much during the survey. And the relaxed education policy itself bears no relationship to the result of PISA though many schools are taking action to increase their school hours.Rather than the result of the ranking, there is a big problem that many Japanese students have lost their motivation for learning. This is the most important issue that we have to consider. In order to make Japanese students highly-motivated, they need the feeling they are a part of the world and can make the world a better place with their own abilities. We have to give opportunities to build their own view and abilities with quality educations, not only amount of time to teach. 2008.3.18☆未チェックです。↑参加中です。読んでくださって有難うございます(^-^)ノ間違いがあったらご指摘くださいね!
