April continues to be unseasonably cold here, John seriously wants to move somewhere warm now.
At last rain stopped on Wednesday.
I wore a thick jacket
and took Duke to the Agility class.
It’s called “Agility-4-Fun”
They apparently focus on the “Fun” part.
It’s beginners’ class, so I didn’t expect any serious lesson.
The expectation is NOT unmet on the first day. 
The instructor’s three young children were running around
and the wet lawn was filled with the smell of poops.
I guess this is good training for dogs to improve their concentration. 
There were a total of 10 dogs, among them, three dogs had taken previous agility classes.
Duke and one Westie were the smaller ones.
All other dogs are mid/large size.
At home, Duke acts big with Duchess, but he was frightened of the other (bigger) dogs.
However he was well mannered without barking or growling.
I think that dog owners who participate in agility classes believe their dogs are quick learner, and it seems to be true.
(I won’t try the agility class with Duchess for sure...
)
Most of dogs in Duke’s class go through the tunnels, the jumps, A-frame and the dogwalks without too many problems.
(Of course, the bars were set low and the A-frame was set to gentle slope for the beginners, but they learnt very quickly. I think they are ready for more difficult challenge.)
I was giving treats to Duke as the instructor told me to do.
However, I run out of the healthy snacks, boiled carrots and broccolivery quickly.
I had to go back to my car to get dog biscuits.
This class is a snack paradise
for Duke.
Next time, I should give him the dog food and boiled vegetables for dinner meal as the treat.
On the way back home, he was asleep most of time; he must have been exhausted.
I think this class is good for Duke.
ニューヨークの四月は寒い日が続いています。
春になってもこんなに寒いと、
ジョンは本気で温暖な
場所に引越ししたいと考えているようです。
やっと雨
がやんだ水曜日の夕方、厚いジャケットを着込んで、
アジリティーのクラス（週一回一時間計6回）に行ってきました。
「
楽しいアジリティークラス」と言う名称で
どうやら「
楽しい」と言う事に重点を置いてるクラスです。
まぁ、ビギナーのクラスなので本格的なレッスンは期待していなかったのですが・・・
期待に外れない第一日目でした。
インストラクターの幼い子供達三人が走り回り、
雨上がりの芝生には糞の臭いが充満していて
犬達に集中力を付けさせる訓練には最適でした。
以前アジリティーのクラスを受けた事が有る犬が三匹、全くの初心者
が七匹。
Dukeとウェスティのワンちゃん以外は中・大型犬。
混ぜこぜのクラス。
家ではDuch相手に威張っているDukeですが他の犬達にはおびえ腰。
でも、吠えたり唸ったりせずにお利巧にしていました。
アジリティーのクラスに参加させようと考える飼い主の犬達は
それなりに物覚えが速いようです。
（私だってDuchをアジリティーのクラスに
参加させようとは思いませんものね~。
）
このクラスの殆どの犬が直ぐにトンネルもハードルも覚え、
Aフレームやドッグウォークも問題なく上って歩いていました。
（どうしてもトンネルが苦手な犬が一匹いましたが・・・。）
勿論ビギナー用にハードルも低くAフレームも穏やかな傾斜に設定してあります。
でも皆学習力があるようなので
もっと難しい障害物にもチャレンジ出来そうです。
最後に地面に倒したウィーブポールの上を歩く練習をして
初日のレッスンは御仕舞いでした。
インストラクターに言われるとおりにオヤツを与えていたら
用意してた茹でたブロッコリーと人参だけでは足りなくなり
ドッグビスケットを車に取りに戻りました。
Dukeにとってはこのクラスはオヤツ
天国。
(オヤツのあげ過ぎでは？）
次回からは夕食分のドッグフードと茹でた野菜を与える事にします。
Dukeは興奮して疲れたのか帰路は殆ど
寝ていました。
行きは渋滞の箇所
があって40分の
運転でしたが帰りは25分でした。
Dukeにはちょうど良いクラスでしょうね。
