Our fourth agility class had two new students; short legs Corgi and a 6 month old Schnoodle (Schnauzer / Poodle mix).
Corgi was very smart and a quick leaner.
Despite his short legs, he can jump very well.
It was 92F, not as hot as last time, but it was hot enough for everyone there.
I was not sweating all that much but I was still sweating.
In an effort to remain 'cool' during the class, I wrapped Duke’s neck with the “Cool it bandana” which I just purchased.
According to the instructions of “Cool it bandana”, we were supposed to soak our bandana in cool water for 15-30 minutes.
It wasn't very cold though, so I put them in the freezer. They get hard as a rock.
I let it thaw out in the car on the way to the class. I put it next Duke.
I think it kept Duke little cooler in the car.
Because A/C causes adverse effect to my Rheumatoid arthritis and Fibromyalgia, I try not using A/C and open the windows as much as possible or put on minimal A/C setting.
It must be very hot for Duke who sitting the back of my hatchback.
The time we arrived at the class, the bandana was soft enough to put on Duke.
30 minutes later
The size S was too small for Duke, barely fit on Duchess.
The Small Bandana is supposed for dogs with 8" to 14" necks; Duke‘s neck is 12 inches.
I bought a medium size for myself and it fit for my neck perfectly, but I have to share that with Duke.
Anyway, it seems Duke doesn’t mind to wear this bandana.
I noticed that the bottom half doesn’t make contact with his neck, I should wrap it “upside down” next time.
It was not cool when I took it off from him. It seems loose the cooling effect after one hour.
I think it helps him cooling during the class; he wasn't drinking as much water as other dogs.
Over all this is good enough for walking and driving in hot days.
第四回目のアジリティークラスには
新しい生徒が二匹参加しました。
ウェルシュ・コーギーと
生後６ヶ月のシュナプー（シュナウザーとプードルのミックス）
二匹とも可愛いですよね。
インストラクターの子供達もシュナプーを気に入ったようです。
シュナプーの飼い主はどうも走るのが厭だったみたいで
殆ど座っていました。
（このおじさん、日陰を探しては移動していました。
）
ウェルシュ・コーギーは物覚えが早くて利口ですね。
短い脚にもかかわらず、ジャンプも問題なくこなしていました。
今回は３３度を少し超えた気温で
先回ほどではなかったのですが、
立っているだけでも汗タラタラの暑さでした。
アメリカの日差し
は日本よりずっと強いと思います。
冷却用バンダナは冷水に１５～３０分浸けて
バンダナの中に入っている特殊なクリスタルが
水分を吸って膨らんだ状態になれば
そのままでも使えると
説明には書かれていますが
少しも冷たくないので
冷凍庫でカチカチに凍らせました。
これをアジリティーのクラスに行く車内
で
（Dukeの傍に置いて）自然解凍させました。
エアコンがきついと
私のリュウマチや線維筋痛症に悪影響が出るので
出来るだけ窓を開けるか
エアコンの設定を弱にするかにしています。
それではハッチバックの後方に乗っているDukeには暑い
でしょうね。
凍ったバンダナが少しはDukeの体温を下げる効果を
発揮したかな？
アジリティーのクラスに到着した時には
バンダナは少し柔らかくなっていて
Dukeの首に巻くのにちょうど良い状態でした。
でも、サイズが小さすぎます。
サイズSは首周り２０～３５ｃｍ用の筈で
Dukeは３０．５ｃｍ。
２９ｃｍのDuchにもピチピチ。
自分用に買ったMサイズのをDukeに使うしかないですね。
Mは私の首にピッタリ。
態々、ピンクを買ったのにね。
私よりDukeの方が必要なようなので仕方がないです。
この日使ったのはSサイズのバンダナでしたが
Dukeは全く嫌がりませんでした。
小さいのにも関わらず、バンダナの下の部分は
Dukeの首にはあたっていなかったようです。
上下逆さまに巻いた方が良いようですね。
それでも他の犬達に比べてDukeは水を欲しがらなかったので
バンダナの冷却効果はあったようです。
クラスが終わってDukeの首からバンダナを外した時には
もう冷たさが感じれませんでした。
どうも、一時間で効果がなくなるようです。
