It will be 22:00 soon. I will read for the next two
hours until bedtime as usual, but before that I wanted
to write a little. It's about Vladimir Horowitz's (1903-
1989) piano playing hand.
No, I'm not trying to say anything great or terrible. As
far as I can see, it's almost like stroking the keyboard,
which is not seen in other Virtuousou (famous perform-
ers). Never play with his hands floting high in the air. It
looks as if it is hanging from the lower frame of the
keyboard, such as the left hand. The long, thin fingers,
as natural pianist, rhythm as if they were sliding and
gently stroking the keybord on both 'forte' and 'piano'.
Keeping eyes on the keybord for the whole music, the
body remains slightly bent forward and hardly moves.
The facial expression seems to be just a quiet dia-
logue with the piano. His emotions are only in the
sound of the finger. This does not give you extra
physical performance. The audience can concentrate
only on the sound of piano. ... Well, Mr. Horowitz's
playing style may be that kind of such thing! That's
it!
