How do you feel when you find that your favorite novel will be made into a movie?

You may be happy that the story will be well known and enjoyed by many people.
But at the same time you may be worried that the story will be changed for worse, and that the viewer
might get a wrong impression of the novel or its writer.

In making movies out of novels, directors sometimes change the stories to suit their imaginations.
Even if the stories are changed, there are many people who enjoy movies as they are.
But to those who love the original story, changing the story, changing the personality of characters,is
unbearable.

I was one of them. The movie had to be exactly as the original story goes.
But I changed my mind when I watched the movie titled "Bokurano".
In the original story, the key person dies, but in the movie she stays alive.
I like the original story, but I didn't want her to die, so I felt relieved to find her alive in the
movie. I thought the director had the same feeling as me.

I had similar experience when I watched a movie titled "Violinist of Hameln".
the original story was a happy ending, but the movie was not.

The hero is a son of a demon and a human being. In the original story, he overcomes the temptation to
kill people, and wins the heart of the heroine and marries her.

But in the movie he loses his mind and was contained in a box by the heroine who has a holy power.

The original story is a mixture of tragedy, comedy and hope, but the director of the movie cut the
comedy part and put much emphasis on tragedy and despair.

some people did not like the changes made by the director.
But I enjoyed the movie because i found hope in the movie.

"Those are the two paths" his mother said in the movie.
In the story the hero and the heroine each reaches a point where two paths start.
If the hero can conquer the evil desire in him, he will go on a path to a happy ending.
If the heroine can resist her desire to open the box to release him, it will be a happy ending for the
world. But for the heroine it will be a happy ending if she dare to open the box because she can see him again.

I am now able to enjoy the different interpretations and imaginations of the directors.




英作文の授業で課題が出たので書いてみました。
あれなんです。２つの道があるってことを強調したかったんです。
だからやたらハーメルンの部分がくどいんです。


追記：母にちょっとだけスペルミスとかないかなーと聞いてみたら鬼のような「この構文はおかしい」指摘が来ましたorz


「あんたは言いたいことが沢山あるんだろうけど読みづらい。削るべき」

血の涙を呑んで色々削減o...rz

・・・好きな話って、語りたくなるやん？やん？・・・

でもこれを暗記しなきゃいけないから少ないほうが実は好都合なんだけどでも削れneeeeee...

そしてまとまらneeee...

「２つの道がある」を、「原作通り」にするか、「もう一つの道」を敢えて作るか、と置き換えれば、
「２つの道」は我々自身の目の前にも現れる・・・そう言いたかったのですが、なんだか分かりにくくなってしまったので結局書けませんでした。

物語は敢えて物語と割り切るか、それとも現実に浸食する事実として語るか、これもある意味二つの道なわけですけれど、どちらのほうが読みやすさとしては正解なのか。チャレンジはしないほうがいいのか・・・な・・・orz
