らない１０人の人々のＣグループは神戸側の主塔の下近くに到着し
た。　神戸側アンカレッジから約１ｋｍのところにある。
　最初に今回のツアーは一回あたり３０人の定員で催行されると書
いている。　その３０人が集まってツアーリーダーの一人から架橋
後１５年目から開始される橋全体の再塗装工事についての説明を聞
いた。　橋の外側に一本ずつその作業に必要な機器を動かすための
レールが設置されていること。　さらに補修用ロードの左右の端に
同じく一本ずつレールが有ることを説明してもらった。　どんな形

いる。　定員が１５人ほどらしいので３つに分けられたグループの

で前の２つのグループが上に上がるまで待つ必要があった。　その
時間を利用して補修用ロードで自前のデジカメで自分たちをツアー
リーダさんが撮ってくれるというお申し出があった。　それでそれ

塔は海面から９８階建てとなっている。　その図に１０階ごとにそ
れを示すランプがつけられている。このエレベーターは架橋当時の
日本のエレベーター技術の粋が使われているとのこと。　上昇スピ
ードは分速１５０ｍだ。　ただし５０何階だかで一旦小休止する電
源だか何かが切り替わるためだそうだ。　エレベータに乗り込んだ
主塔の階数が１７階である。　切り替えが無いとしたら２分弱でて
っぺん近くに到着する計算になる。　このエレベータは主塔がやや
傾きをもって設置されているから垂直に上昇するのではなく、斜行
することになる。　それだけの技術がいるのだそうです。　どんな
技術が最高なのか聞き漏らしました。　それほど早く着いたのです
ね。

眩む高さなんですね。　東京タワーの展望台の高さを抜いて展望塔
高さでは世界一なんだそうです。　でも主塔の最高部位ではなくさ
