One compliment about your child’s learning:I am so glad to know that Hibi has learned a lot in Kindergarten in such a short period of time. She really likes to go to school and often talks to me about what she has done at school. For example, she talks about sign language, Thanksgiving Day, Halloween, Remembrance Day, library, computers. She was very proud of herself when she had a turn for the calendar at class. It gave her confidence. She had a hard time living in Canada, staying with a host family because of different rules, different food, different lifestyle and so on. I am very proud of Hibi because she has adjusted herself to her new circumstance in a short time and started to enjoy her life here. I believe that she has learned something more than English that she could never have in Japan with our own family. I hope that she grows up to be a person with an understanding of cultural diversity due to her experiences in Canada. One suggestion for your child:I am struggling how I can help Hibi to keep up her English in Japan. I heard that if one learns how to read and write, they have a better chance of remembering English. Right now I am trying to teach her how to read sight words using flash cards. She can read about 30-50 words. If you can help her read very simple books at school, that will make Hibi more confident with reading. I feel it has different meaning for her between reading with me and reading with you. Hibi feels encouraged when she is recognized by her teacher. I would like to thak you for teaching and encouraging her all the time. This report card wil be Hibi’s first historical record at school.
