雷が鳴り響かなくなる頃になった。もっとも日が長い夏至を過ぎて、昼と夜がほぼ同じ日が秋分の日である。この日を境に、これから昼の時間が短くなり、もっとも昼の時間が短い冬至へと向かう。夏の入道雲から、秋の兆しであるうろこ雲が見えてくる。ちょうど稲が実るのは雷光がよく見られる時期である。雷により化学反応が起き、空気中の窒素が分解、酸素と結合し窒素化合物となる。窒素化合物は雨により硝酸となり地中に溶け、作物の生育にいい影響を与えるという。これはアミノ酸の合成のプロセスでもあり、生命誕生のプロセスとして科学的に解明が進んでいる。
