Place of Scenic Beauty Designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Govemment・・・Kiyosumi GardensIn the Edo era,the shimo-yashiki(daimiyo's suburban residence)of the feudal lord.Kuze Yamato-no-kami,stood on this site.It was then purchased byIwasaki Yataro in the Meiji era.Iwasaki chose this property to build a garden for the enjoymentof his employees and to entertain Shimbokuen,in 1880.The garden is one of the best examples of aMeiji Period barden,incorporating elements of the classic style of the Edo period daimiyo garden,namely a strolling garden centered around a large pond, filled with trees.It features a large pond and large and unusually shaped rocks sourced from all over Japan.The garden sustained damagein the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923,but proved very usefulas an evacuation area.For this reason,it was donated to the City of Tokyo,and in 1932,it was opened to the public with the name of Kiyosumi Gadens.In 1979,this garden was designated by the Tokyo Metropolitan Governmentas a place of scenic of scenic beauty.きよすみていえん清澄庭園・・・とは?(日本語版)泉水、築山、枯山水を主体ににしたかいゆうしきりんせんていえん「回遊式林泉庭園」です。この造園手法は、江戸時代の大名庭園に用いられたものですが、明治時代の造園にも受け継がれ、清澄庭園にょって近代的な完成をみたといわれています。この地の一部は、江戸の豪商・紀伊國屋文左衛門の屋敷跡と言い伝えられています。享保年間(1716年〜1735年)には、しもうきのくにせきやど下総国関宿藩主・くぜやまとのかみ久世大和守の下屋敷となり、その頃にある程度庭園が形づくられたようです。明治11年(1878年)、岩崎彌太郎が、荒廃していたこの邸宅を買い取り、社員の慰安や貴賓を招待する場所として庭園造成を計画、明治13年(1880年)に、「深川親睦園」として一応の竣工をみました。彌太郎の亡きあとも造園工事は進められ、隅田川の水を引いた大泉水を造り、周囲には、全国から取り寄せた名石を配して、毎時時代を代表する庭園が完成しました。清澄庭園は、大正12年(1923年)、関東大震災で大きな被害を受けましたが、この時、図らずも災害時の避難場所としての役割を果たし、多数の人命を救いました。岩崎家では、こうした庭園の持つ防災機能を重視し、翌大正13年(1924年)、破損の少なかった東半分(現庭園部分)を公園用地として東京市に寄付し、市では、これを整備して昭和7年(1932年)7月に公開しました。また、昭和52年(1977年)には、庭園の西側に隣接する敷地を開放公園として、追加開園しました。なお、清澄庭園は、昭和54年(1979年)3月31日に東京都の名勝に指定されています。園内は、外国からのお客さまばかりでしたので、英語での解説をご紹介しました世界遺産にぽち
