This past Monday, Dec. 3rd, I was invited
to a company I work for as their translator.
This company offered me an opportunity to
visit Saudi Arabia with them last year, but their plan
to go to the country was cancelled quite later and
they did not tell me that they had already cancelled
before I asked them. Since then, I have had a little bit
negative impression on them.
The week before, their director called me
and asked me to come there.
They wanted me to join the discussion in detail
on a business contract they would conclude with
their overseas customer soon.
They were in the process of finalizing the contract.
I went to the company around 09:30 a.me.
They had already prepared draft of the contract, which
they said their attorney-at-law had made.
First I was asked to check the English translation
of the contract which the lawyer made.
I found many mistakes in English grammar and expressions
which I had to correct as a professional business translator.
Then, their president and other director joined me
and they began to talk about and modify the very details
and I had to newly add translation of what they agreed
to modify or improve the contract.
It was a nicely challenging job for me.
It was much easier to make an English translation of
a contract, because I was with the two responsible persons,
who discussed the contract, and was able to confirm their
intentions behind the words.
Usually I translate at my office while I am always away from responsible
persons. It is sometimes troublesome to make a call to them
just for confirming the meaning, definitions, or intentions of their words.
So it was nice for me to work with the responsible persons who
were in front of me.I enjoyed working as their translator on the spot.
