Allow the President to invade a neighboring nation, whenever he shall deem it necessary to repel an invasion, and you allow him to do so, whenever he may choose to say he deems it necessary for such a purpose -- and you allow him to make war at pleasure. If today, he should choose to say he thinks it necessary to invade Canada, to prevent the British from invading us, how could you stop him? You may say to him, 'I see no probability of the British invading us' but he will say to you, 'Be silent; I see it, if you don't.'" ++++++++++++++++++++A country cannot simultaneously prepare and prevent war. (A・アインシュタイン)The pioneers of a warless world are the youth that refuse military service. (A・アインシュタイン)Never has there been a good war or a bad peace - Benjamin Franklinいまだかって、よい戦争も、悪い平和もない。(B・フランクリン)I may be compelled to face danger, but never fear it, and while our soldiers can stand and fight, I can stand and feed and nurse them. (クラーラ・バートン)We have to face the fact that either all of us are going to die together or we are going to learn to live together and if we are to live together we have to talk. (エレナー・ルーズベルト)All men are brothers, like the seas throughout the world; So why do winds and waves clash so fiercely everywhere? (日本国・天皇)Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime. (E・ヘミングウェイ)They wrote in the old days that it is sweet and fitting to die for one's country. But in modern war, there is nothing neither sweet nor fitting in your dying. You will die like a dog for no good reason. (E・ヘミングウェイ)What difference does it make to the dead, the orphans, and the homeless, whether the mad destruction is wrought under the name of totalitarianism or the holy name of liberty and democracy? (ガンジー)Vietnam was the first war ever fought without any censorship. Without censorship, things can get terribly confused in the public mind. (W・ウェストモーランド将軍)Older men declare war. But it’s the youth who must fight and die! (ハーバート・フーバー)Violence is the first refuge of the incompetent - Isaac Asimov暴力は、無能な人間がする最初の逃げ場だ。(アイザック・アシモフ)You know the real meaning of PEACE only if you have been through the war - Kosovar戦争になってはじめて、君は、「平和」の本当の意味がわかるのさ。(Kosovar)Anyone, who truly wants to go to war, has never truly been there before! (L・リーブズ)Only the dead have seen the end of war - Plato死人のみが、戦争の終わりを知る。(プラト)Today we did what we had to do. They counted on America to be passive. They counted wrong. (R・レーガン)History teaches that war begins when governments believe the price of aggression is cheap. I think that technologies are morally neutral until we apply them. It's only when we use them for good or for evil that they become good or evil - William Gibson技術というものは、それが応用されるまで、道徳的に中立であるべきと思う。 (W・ギブソン)The United States is like giant boiler. Once the fire is lighted under it, there is no limit to the power it can generate.
